The road to TB elimination starts with TB prevention…
Through the support of the Unitaid-funded ASCENT DR-TB Project, drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) Preventive Treatment (DR-TPT) using 6 months of levofloxacin has been introduced to advance implementation in the region, in line with the latest World Health Organization (WHO) Recommendations.

Sixty-three (63) health care workers from 18 sites across 7 regions in the Philippines were oriented on the DR-TPT Interim Guidelines during a workshop from September 9 to 11, 2025 at the Bayleaf Intramuros Hotel, Manila.
The DR-TPT workshop presented the rationale and objectives of the DR-TPT advance implementation. Here, it was discussed the key provisions of the DR-TPT guidelines, and agreed on the roles and responsibilities, as well as the reporting mechanism.

As part of the DR-TB -TPT initiative of the National Tuberculosis Control Program of the Disease Prevention and Control Bureau (DPCB), a training on tuberculin skin test (TST) administration, reading and interpretation was conducted in order to enhance the skills of health workers to determine TB infection among TB contacts. This training was attended by 49 health care workers from iDOTS facilities across 5 regions.
